Making Rounds with Oscar: The Extraordinary Gift of an Ordianry cat

Review by Diane - 7/19/2010
Title: Making Rounds with Oscar
Author: David Dosa

Making Rounds with Oscar is an easy to read book that deals with a difficult illness called dementia.  Dr. David Dosa is a geriatrician who treats patients that live at Steere House nursing home and are struggling through the late stages of dementia.  This book is made up of various stories of how Oscar the cat, who lives at Steere House,  repeatedly knew when a patient was about to die.  He would enter the room as the person was nearing his/her end of life and bring comfort to the family member who was there.  The doctor goes on a mission to find out how a cat could know this and through this process, the reader learns many lessons about aging, end of life, and how dementia affects the patient as well as family and friends.
