Solomon's Oak

Review by Brenda - 10/31/2010
bookcover
Title: Solomon's Oak
Author: Jo-Ann Mapson

Solomon's Oak is the story of a mourning, widowed woman named Glory, a broken, abandoned young girl, Juniper, and a physically broken man named Joseph. These three people learn to open their hearts in a new way to each other in this touching story.

This is the first novel that I have read of Mapsons and she did not disappoint.  The characters are well developed, the setting was so real that I felt that I was apart of the book.  A great read.

Title: Bink and Gollie
Author: Kate DiCamillo

Bink and Gollie, two little girls — one tiny, one tall, and both are totally uncontrollable. They live in a super-deluxe tree house. The problem they have is their unwillingness to compromise. They share three adventures involving very bright socks which offend Bink, an impromptu hike to the Andes, and a most unlikely marvelous companion. No matter where their roller skates take them, at the end of the day they will always be the very best of friends. All three stories are written in short sentences and the illustrations are mostly black and white, except color is used for the two characters.
